We are headed to Eastern Europe on a RS tour in June, starting in Prague. I read this memoir a couple of years ago and I recommend it to anyone traveling there, or anyone traveling to any of the former communist countries of Europe.
Gene Deitch is an Oscar-winning animation director ("Munro") who went to Prague in 1959 to work on a project. He fell in love with a Czech woman, Zdenka, married her, and stayed. He was given freedoms that most Czechs did not have, making this a fascinating story as well as an ode to his adopted city and his wife. He still lives there. His writing style is breezy and humorous, and this is a quick read.
