For the Love of Prague

We are headed to Eastern Europe on a RS tour in June, starting in Prague. I read this memoir a couple of years ago and I recommend it to anyone traveling there, or anyone traveling to any of the former communist countries of Europe.

Gene Deitch is an Oscar-winning animation director ("Munro") who went to Prague in 1959 to work on a project. He fell in love with a Czech woman, Zdenka, married her, and stayed. He was given freedoms that most Czechs did not have, making this a fascinating story as well as an ode to his adopted city and his wife. He still lives there. His writing style is breezy and humorous, and this is a quick read.

Thanks Al! I will look for this book. We will be in Prague this September. Enjoy the RS tour!
We were on the Adriatic Tour last September and one of our tour members did Eastern first and joined us in Ljubljana. He really enjoyed the Eastern as well.
