Fascinating is right! I wish I knew about this in the B4 Times when we could have the Bohemian Lifestyle of our youth!

That’s very interesting. I certainly wasn't aware of Milan’s ancient canal past, the “modernization” projects in the mid-20th century to eradicate them, or the current plans to restore some of the waterways. And tour boats, kayaks, and rowers are already plying the existing canal waters! Something to add on the next visit to Milan - thank you for this article!

Yes, thank you for this article. I was in Milan 10 years ago and have wanted to go back. It has now moved up on the “need to revisit” list.

Might have to add a night to the next stay over. The Navigli has been on my list since 2015 yet something else pops to the top (or the weather doesn’t cooperate).

Thanks for the article! We spent several weeks in and traveling from Milan doing a house exchange. The owners left information about this lively canal area for us and we gladly visited the cafes and shops several times on that visit. We also discovered the pedestrian area south of the Garibaldi train station. Both of these areas were famous (pre pandemic) for their free apericena buffets with the purchase of an aperitivo during the generous happy hour time.
