While this is a belated post , the story in this film is grand . In late 19th century Manchester , Henry Hobson is the proprietor of a boot shop which he runs with the help of his three daughters . The eldest of them , Maggie , has a rebellious view of her patriarchal father, and the ensuing tale is touching and quite humorous . From 1954 , starring Charles Laughton , Brenda De Banzie , and John Mills , this film is an absolute delight , particularly for those of us who are anglophiles . From director David Lean , " Hobson's Choice " I do hope some of you will watch this ! - https://youtu.be/DNyFEjgZk40
