broadway

We enjoyed The Book of Mormon and Kinky boots. We liked laughing at these shows. What do you recommend next for us for a show which will make us laugh? Broadway. Musicals.

The play that goes Wrong
I wasn't really expecting to like it, but laughed myself silly. Really well done.

Moulin Rouge is a good show. Back to the Future has good reviews, didn’t see it yet but will during the summer. Avoid The Notebook my friend, we sees every show, saw it and was very disappointed.

Month and Year of visit?

I am inclined to say there are not a lot of rollicking musical comedies running right now. Moulin Rouge is more of a "nightclub evening" than a comedy. While Hadestown is a dramatic musical, it has high entertainment value. Six and &Juliet appeal to current pop music fans, but are not "comedy." The upcoming Once Upon A Mattress is a very old, classic comedy, not yet in performance. The Wiz got mixed reviews, so I haven't seen it yet. I had expected Water For Elephants to be light-hearted, but honestly, it had so much adultery and murder (!) that I can't promote it as Family Entertainment, despite having nice animal puppets. (I have no personal problem with this, I just know that some online readers consider such warnings important. I thought Book Of Mormon's use of warlord village takeovers in Africa as humor to be in bad taste, partly because I'd seen the Pulitzer-prize play, "Ruined".)

Heard from a friend that Titanique is hilarious ("Nothing could come between Jack and Rose. Except Celine Dion."). As stated above, really depends when you are going and what shows are on...and what you find funny. Merrily We Roll Along is sometimes considered a comedy, although I mostly found it amusing and cynical; but it is also very well done (especially if you've seen the documentary The Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened - whoo boy, that play was a mess when it first opened in 1981).

Hadestown was good but not funny. I did enjoy it but it wouldn’t tell anyone it’s a don’t miss.
