"Blancanieves" captures Sevilla in the 1920s

The film "Blancanieves" (Snowhite) was Spain's Oscar entry for best foreign film in 2012, and was filmed on location in southern towns, with studio and postproduction in Madrid and Barcelona. It's a re-telling of the fable of Snow White, sort of, set during the 1920s and done in B&W nearly silently.

It has a great retro look and gives a sense of the homes and furnishings of the wealthy of the time period. And if you try to read lips of the characters speaking Spanish, you get a little extra practice, too. Bullfighting is central to the story, so be cautious if you're not a fan.
