All Quiet on the Western Front Trailer

The first German film version of the novel. The trailer dropped today. German theaters Sept 29. Select US theaters October. Netflix October 28. I'm hoping it's on the big screen somewhere near me.

Good that this version in the original language is finally being released.

On the same theme, that of viewing the war from the German side, I would suggest also a German film made in 1930, the same year that Hitler's electoral vote getting skyrocketed in the Reichstag elections. That film is "Westfront 1918"...a gripping anti-war film depicting "raw reality."

Definitely looks worthwhile. Thanks for the heads-up, Dave.

Never got back to this post after watching... the movie is excellent -- a realistic presentation of war. The film juxtaposes the grim life-and-death struggle of men at the front against the opulence of the military and political leaders who are determining their fate. A true anti-war movie, as the book was a true anti-war novel.

Agree about the movie. Very well done, even if hard to watch at times.

Probably like many of you, I had seen older versions of this (I think it was shown in my jr high school history class, in glorious black and white, very long ago). This new version was visually stunning, with intense colors and fine details, I found it really compelling. Well worth a watch. (I watched it on Netflix a few weeks ago.)

Agreed and while there are some inaccuracies, I think it stayed true to the spirit of the book and how Germans (still) feel about war.

This film is well worth watching, seeing and following it in the original language adds to the poignant, gripping aura. Well portrayed in displaying the contrasts behind the front , the home front, and that of the horrid battle front in France itself. Like the German anti-war film above, "Westfront 1918, " this version graphically depicts the "raw reality."
