50th Anniversary of excavations at Nemea of Olympic facilities

In his TV episodes on Greece, Rick likes to show where the track and field events were held in Nemea and he even tries a race, or at least the first few strides of one, ha.

Well, this summer is the 50th anniversary of the formal academic archaeological excavations of the site

and there is a nice article about the occasion here:

"During Greece’s classical period, the Panhellenic Games rotated among four sites — Nemea, Delphi, Isthmia and Olympia — and featured the area’s fastest competitors."

Or maybe Rick is showing the athletic track at Delphi?

All these 50th anniversary commemorations are starting to show us what Rick was finding on his early scouting trips to Europe.

Nemea is such a wonderful surprise. We just loved it there when we visited in 2018. There is also is a wonderful museum which is even air conditioned!

That’s fantastic. I didn’t realize the ancient site was only so recently rediscovered. The arena there was sure in better shape in 2018 than the one in Archaia Olympia on that same trip.

How will the modern Paris facilities look in 2,000+ years, I wonder?
