430th birthday of outer and inner world traveler Descartes

Descartes, French philosopher and scientist, born March 31st 1596, was a traveler in two worlds. One was the outer world in which he traveled through Europe. The other was the inner world of humans and their thoughts where he established a pure rationalism of thinking. Minimum an influencer or maybe a founder of a philosophic approach.

Happy birthday and thank you, René.

Thank you for that post, Mark. It prompted me to look up information about Decartes' travel throughout Europe. It's interesting.

A thoughtful tribute—Descartes’ journey through both the physical world and the realm of ideas still resonates today. His influence on rational thinking truly shaped how we understand knowledge and existence.

The German student saying in bars "bibo, ergo sum" (I drink, so I am) is derived from Descartes' "cogito, ergo sum". :)

Some things once you learn, you can’t forget…… I hear/read the name Descartes now and I immediately think: animal torture. Proving I guess, the limits of pure rationalism.
