My family and I will be be in Yokosuka Japan and wanted to do a bullet train to Kyoto and see a few sites, and come back the next day.
Any recommendations on the best way to do that? (best way to get tickets), where to stay in Kyoto, and what to see? ( maybe a cooking class?)
Thanks,
Mike
You have not asked a simple question! I spent a week in Kyoto earlier this year and didn't see all I wanted to see! I found this website very helpful: https://www.insidekyoto.com
You can catch a bullet train to Kyoto Station from Shin-Yokohama station. I have always purchased tickets for Shinkansen just before boarding, but if your dates are a Japanese holiday season, I would purchase in advance. Google "Jorudan English" on the web or download the Jorudan app for a good travel planner.
Central Japan Shinkansen website: https://global.jr-central.co.jp/en/onlinebooking/ OR https://smart-ex.jp/en/index.ph
I was in Japan in September. Had the JR pass. We always looked up what trains we were going to use on google. It is easy. Local or intercity trains. Told us the times, stations, platforms. We just did it as we went. Was no problem. You can buy the tickets at the station.
Thanks for the advice!
