Yellow Fever vaccine --- Ecuador / Panama

I am need of some help
A friend mentioned something in passing about Yellow Fever vaccine & Panama and I'm desperately searching for an answer.

I'm traveling very (very) soon and am researching as quickly as I can.

I have two different travel itineraries 1 is for me and one is for my friend
My question is : is it REQUIRED to have the yellow fever vaccine.

Itinerary 1:
* Travel from Ecuador (Quito & Galápagos) to Panama (Panama City) to Switzerland

Itinerary 2:
* Travel from Costa Rica to Ecuador (Quito & Galápagos) to Panama (Panama City) to Australia to Switzerland
----- I know this itinerary sounds weird, and it is, don't focus on the weirdness of the itinerary

I didn't think about the Yellow fever vaccine when we were booking the flights - it never appeared on our radar.

Any help would be appreciated ---
I'm doing my research now but am hoping someone with first hand experience could shed some light on this.

Refer to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) "Travelers Health > Destinations" page at https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/list. Select your destination from the "Where are you going?" drop down menu, and click GO. Once on the destination country page, scroll down to the "Vaccines and Medicines" section. Here you will find CDC's recommendations, and in some cases country-specific requirements", for vaccines. The site also provides good general info on preparing for travel health in each country and links to other services, i.e. locating vaccine clinics.

I use the CDC recos as a starting point for discussion with my doctor and have found it helpful.

Australia requires the yellow fever vaccine for travellers who spent at least a night in Panama or Ecuador excl. Galapagos Is.

See here for info: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/immunisation/Pages/yellow_fever.aspx#:~:text=People%20who%20are%20one%20year,declared%20yellow%20fever%20infected%20country.

and here for the Australian list of at-risk countries:
https://www1.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/content/health-pubhlth-strateg-communic-factsheets-yellow.htm#07

I am not finding any such requirements in Switzerland.

Thank you everyone

I just called my airlines Copa airlines (Ecuador to Panama) and they sent me to this web address: https://www.copaair.com/en/web/gs/timatic I had trouble with the website so the attendant on the phone did the work and said
* for itinerary 1 Travel from Ecuador (Quito & Galápagos) to Panama (Panama City) to Switzerland A yellow fever vaccination is recommended but NOT required

I then checked the itinerary 2 and it appears that YES a vaccination is required to enter Australia.

If anyone believes I've miss understood or have better first hand knowledge please let me know.
It's stressful as I just learned about this today and my flight is very soon.

Having been to the Galapagos and Panama City, I would never go without Yellow Fever vaccination, regardless of government travel rules. Have you read about the construction of the canal?

How soon is "very soon"? The highest risk area is Panama (Quito is too high for the carrier mosquitos so the risk is zero, and the Galapagos are too far out in the ocean so the risk is apparently low), and the Yellow Fever vaccine takes 10 days to be effective, so you probably have time to be covered in time for Panama at least!

I assume that you also have the appropriate malaria medicine?

I am a bit puzzled why you and your friend are not just getting the vaccine ASAP. It's available in travel clinics and probably places like CVS. It's an established vaccine decades old and one jab works for life. Just call around and get it.

Its a live virus vaccine, so not usually available at pharmacies. Our county health department will give it, but only on certain days of the week and with an appointment.

The yellow fever vaccine is not that widely available. Also, a year or two ago there was a huge shortage (not sure if this has been cleared up) and most of the doses that were being manufactured were being sent to places like Africa, Asia, S America where the need was greater. Hence, it may not be that easy to come by.

It’s been a while, but I didn’t need a yellow fever vaccination for either Ecuador or Panama. I did need one for Africa and it was good for a year. No idea about now. When I spent time in Central America while in the military I was required to take malaria pills weekly so as not to get it.

The yellow fever shot used to be valid for 10 years but has since been modified to be a lifetime shot.
