Writing the first Lonely Planet Thailand travel guide

As a LP Thorn Tree member - a forum sadly experiencing its own form of COVID-19 lockdown - I thought this was an interesting look at researching/writing a guidebook to inspire and assist, to quote the author, "independent culture freaks" to explore a developing country, economically and close to the ground, in the early '80's.

Thank you for positing this very interesting article. I really enjoyed it. I use Lonely Planet a lot but didn’t know any thing about its humble beginnings.

The strangest thing about Lonely Planet is why the BBC ever considered it was a good fit to buy it, although the timing was bad being in 2007.
