We're traveling to Montreal in early November and enjoy walking; we're also up for using the Metro and Uber when required. Would you recommend staying in Old Montreal, the Golden Mile area, or another area such as Mont Royal or Plateau?
Old Montreal 1st as there are many things & restaurants within walking distance, Golden Mile 2nd though this area not close to the Metro.
Les Pyrennes on StPaul in Old Mtl was very good.
If by the Golden Mile you mean the .Golden Square Mile, it is a very pleasant part of the city and really, not a long walk to and from the nearest Metro Station. There is also good bus service in the area to other and further reaches of Montreal. Old Montreal is, of course, interesting, too, but I prefer the uptown part of the city. The Ramsay Museum in Old Montreal is very interesting, by the way, with English language tours available. Uptown the Montreal Museum of Fine Art (MMFA) is two buildings, across from one another on opposite sides of Sherbrooke street, one very modern and the other not, but both handsome. It used to be a third rate Museum ( in my opinion) but is now world class (also in my opinion) usually with special and excellent exhibitions. The restaurant is pretty good, too. Further east along Sherbrooke St. is the Redpath Museum, mostly Montreal oriented in its exhibits, and it, too, has a good restaurant. Lots of "ladies who lunch" to be seen there.
By the way, the Plateau Mont Royal is chock-a-block with excellent restaurants. On rue St Denis between Sherbrooke and Ste. Catherine streets, there is a restaurant every 10 feet, really! Be sure to spend some time there.
Very helpful-thank you!
