Where to stay with 15 year old granddaughter in Washington, D.C.

We will be traveling to Washington, D.C. and New York with our granddaughters, ages 15 and 23 and are looking for recommendations on places to stary in both cities.

One idea is Dupont Circle. It's a great area to walk around in, with lots of restaurants and a Metro stop. You are also near to some beautiful embassies. My favorite hotel in that area is The Tabard Inn. It has some history, rooms are unique and pretty, and has an excellent restaurant. Depending on the young women's interests, also consider taking an Uber to Hillwood Museum, which has lovely gardens and a sweet museum.

For D.C., I would stay at the Wharf. Loads of restaurants, coffee shops, etc. and pedestrian friendly. There is a ferry landing and free transportation to other areas. We loved the Intercontinental Wharf, and I believe there is also a new Pendry that would be great for girls their age.

We used to stay in the DuPont Circle and Foggy Bottom areas but for our upcoming trip we are trying the Wharf area. We have a family member that lives nearby and says that the Wharf area is really lovely and a nice place to stay.

One note - for your group of 4 - there is a Hyatt House there that can offer larger rooms.

Another thought is to stay at an airbnb there in order to have more room to spread out and maybe have a few simple meals like breakfast at “home.” When my kids were teens it made life so much better to relax in an apartment during travels vrs hotel rooms. The airbnb hosts often have created guidebooks for the neighborhood with plenty of recommendations and can help with tour ideas.

Since you mention NY in text but not heading, why not start another subject asking for NY hotels so more people.might respond About NYC.

We just returned from D.C. last week and loved the location of Club Quarters Hotel White House.

You are within walking distance of all of the monuments and the Smithsonian and FIVE steps to the metro stop to travel to locations like the Arlington National Cemetery area. The area is extremely safe at night and there are numerous restaurant chains around, along with a Trader Joe's.

I always hunt for something more convenient or cheaper when I go back to D.C., but I always end up at the Yotel Hotel. Just works for me. I have it booked again for September.

We've stayed in AirBnB's the 3 times we've taken our teens. Once in near the Foggy Bottom metro in Georgetown, once in Alexandria (for a summer camp at Virginia Tech) but still convenient to the King St metro, and once up behind the Capital (Capital Heights I believe is what the area is called). All three were within a few blocks of the metro and worked well for us. We found them less expensive than hotels for 4-5 people for the dates we visited.
