There’s a Marriott not far from the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side. I believe there is also a Sheraton and an Aloft nearby. All of these are very near subways that will whisk you to the sights in Manhattan.
My son lives in Brooklyn Heights, the area along the water across from lower Manhattan. The whole waterfront has been developed into a huge park. You can also walk along the Brooklyn Promenade for terrific views of the Manhattan skyline and across the Brooklyn Bridge. Brooklyn also has Prospect Park (designed by the same person who designed Central Park), a zoo, a botanical garden and an art museum - all worth a visit, all rival similar places in Manhattan.
There are a plethora of restaurants in various Brooklyn neighborhoods. Just look around on Google maps.
