Our 21 year old daughter is going to Budapest at the end of October for 4 nights. Can you recommend a safe hip area for her to rent an apartment? Thank you!

I have an apt in Budapest but am far from hip.
Just asked my 29 y o daughter who lived in Hungary for 1.5 yrs and visits (and never stays at our place which generally is rented).
Her Fave Hostel is: Carpe Noctum Vitae on Kiraly Ut. It is owned by some Brits. But, she says it is Party Central. So, wearing my Dad's hat, not sure I am recommending it!
There is a Hungary Forum on the this RS site that is very, very helpful - I am sure you will get better, and safer, info there. Although, considering the size of the city, BP is very safe. I can tell you that Kiraly Utca (street) is a good place to park oneself. The Pest side of Budapest has a higher degree of hipness.
I would offer my place - but we don't do short rentals! -
I rented an apartment here in 2014 and I was very satisfied with it. Clean, nice front desk staff, very convenient for sightseeing, safe area, and budget friendly. The apartments are located in several bldgs along a courtyard that is filled with cafes and bars so there is nightlife if you want it. If you get an apartment on an upper floor (I was on 3rd floor), there was no problem with noise from the courtyard. There's a little craft market one day a week in the courtyard also.
If she prefers a hostel environment (more young travelers to socialize with) the Wombat Hostel is on the same street - Kiraly Utca.
And I always thought that Budapest was in Europe. Hmmm.
Ilja, I was going to comment on that also, kinda made me chuckle.

I just got back from a stay at AnVa House just off Kiraly ut. (str.) that rents rooms and suites. It was an excellent stay. This is the area with the hip bars, especially the ruin pubs. It is "party central" Budapest-style. Nothing rowdy, just folks enjoying drinks, food, music, and companionship. I didn't see (or hear) any drunken or riotous behavior. And it's safe to walk around day or night. It's the old Jewish quarter, lots of lovely old buildings (some renovated, some falling to pieces) and very good transportation to see the sights.
Hi! Budapest is in Europe, not far away from its middle that is localized in Suchowola near Białystok (Poland), so you can start this thread in the part of the forum about Hungary.
I also thought that Budapest is in Europe. And it is actually much closer to the middle point of Europe because by another claim middle point of Europe is in Kremnicke Bane in central Slovakia (which is much closer to Budapest than Bialystok).

Nancy's apartment is off Kiraly utca also. I live not far from there when i am in town and its got a lot of young night life ... a whole lot. And actually from Nancy's apartment your daughter would just have to go down to the courtyard where there are a lot of great bars and crowds of kids....
But then, when my daughter is in town she stays not too terribly far from there as well and as of yet, no problems.
It will not help Kevin, but only as a continuation of the digression: Yes Ilja, the first official declared geographical midpoint of Europe (in the year 1775) is in a small town named Suchowola located near Białystok in Poland, but there are more midpoints as the place of the midpoint depends on the method of measuring, e.g. this is near Kremnica in Slovakia.
Back on the subject of accommodations in Budapest. Please make sure that if you stay in an apartment that you stay in one that is properly registered and operating legally. Many are not. If you don't have to fill out a bit of legal looking paperwork and put your signature to it, best find another place.
Yup, I am sitting at the corner of Vasvari Pal utca and Kiraly utca as I type this, and your daughter will love it here. Seriously, I live (part time) about 200 feet from here (Kadarka Wine Bar) and its a veru safe, but young, area. If she does stay near here I can provide a few introductions so she will have a support network very near.
We had a wonderful stay at a B&B last year in Budapest--Kapital Inn. Spotless, good location, wonderful and helpful host.
