Airline cancelled our return flight from Crete. As a result we will have to stay overnight, and fly out next morning, from Dulles Airport. Looking for a comfortable, not fancy, place to stay with airport shuttle and a good place for dinner nearby. Recommendations please. Thanks in advance.
If airline cancelled your flight shouldn't they be responsible for your hotel that night?
You would think… We booked through Lufthansa and United cancelled the flight. Lufthansa says not their problem. United says it is on Lufthansa.
Try the Reston Town Center area. Unfortunately, I can’t suggest a specific hotel, but that area has a concentration of restaurants, cafes, and hotels. Good luck!
Omg so very sorry you are caught between that rock and a hard place. There are a couple.of contributors on this site who I hope will respond. Keep good record of all your correspondence and expenses and be the squeaky wheel. Best wishes and appreciate the joys of travel.
@Rachel and @Gail - Thank you.
I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner Center, but it’s a bit further from the airport and I don’t think it has a shuttle. I went with it since it had good reviews for being quiet.
There’s the AC Hotel and Hyatt Regency in Reston that are closer and ones I considered.
I'd stay at an airport hotel and uber to a nearby restaurant-there aren't a lot of great ones around there.
However, I would keep fighting and pushing back about a hotel and food voucher. British Airlines cancelled my flight and if I hadn't asked about vouchers for hotels and food, the BA information clerk wouldn't have volunteered the information. I would just keep calling and talking to a supervisor and getting names.
Did you buy trip insurance for the trip?
There is a relatively new Residence Inn about a 5 minute walk from the Reston Town Center metro station (I live in the area so have never stayed there). You can take the metro to and from Dulles. From the Residence Inn, you are about a ten minute walk from Reston Town Center where there are many restaurants. In particular, I like Jackson’s and Passionfish.
There are probably a number of less expensive hotels closer to the airport and many will have shuttles. You could always uber to Reston Town Center for dinner.
Adding a list of restaurants at Reston Town Center:

Thanks so much for all of the helpful responses! I appreciate the hotel suggestions and, especially, the restaurant recommendations. Also, appreciate the encouragement to persist with the airlines.
@geovagriffith - No, no trip insurance.
We stayed at the Hampton inn, 22700 Holiday Park Dr, Sterling, VA 20166 when we flew out of Dulles, but we alway had a car. There’s a Fairfield Inn & Suites at Dulles Airport with a Cracker Barrel next door and a Subway shop and Indian cuisine restaurant within walking distance.
@jaimeelsabio - Thank you!
