when flying from the United States to Cairo through Rome when do you go through customs?

Hello -

And thank you for all the good advice we've received, One final question - our flight from the States has a one hour layover in Rome before continuing on to our final destination of Cairo. If we have to go through customs in Rome before boarding the plane to Cairo, we may very well not make the Cairo flight in time. Does anyone know - Do we go through customs in Rome? In Cairo? Both?

Thank you!

You will go through immigration and customs in Cairo.

p.s. If you are checking a bag, make sure you have a change of clothes and essentials in your carry-on.

Also, if you are checking bags make sure they are tagged to Cairo and have a "short connection" tag as well. And get your Rome-Cairo boarding passes then too. Let the cabin crew know you have a short connection - they may be able to help you disembark more quickly and/or may be able to give you your gate number.

Ditto what Laura said - pack everything you need for the first 48 hours in your carry-ons.

Might be worth adding that once in Rome, do not follow the crowd to immigration, look for the"connecting flights" or "transit" passage into the international terminal.
