Seems like people are getting some good help with travel in Washington State. We travel there a lot because our son and family live in Seattle. We usually visit them and tack on a camping trip. This year we are wanting to visit Mt St. Helens a bit and then spend some time hiking and viewing the Lewis River and waterfalls.
Initially, I was looking for a national forest campground that we could base at and visit both Mt St Helens and Lewis River sites from there. That is looking to not be possible given the road system and the travel time between some of these places. So now we are thinking we will visit Mt St. Helens on the way to a Lewis River campsite. We probably won't get as much time at Mt St. Helens as we'd like to. It also looks like there are more campgrounds affiliated with Pacific Corp which I've never heard of. Is that the power company? I'm looking for suggestions on how to visit these two areas and for a scenic campground that is somewhat centrally located for both the Lewis River Falls and Panther Creek and others. We tent camp and look for campgrounds with water and restrooms. We are also open to suggestions of particularly scenic spots that people have enjoyed in this area.
We've been using the national forest website as well as rec.gov and a couple of guide books with day hikes.
