Washington DC accommodations

My first visit to Washington DC from Northern California. Ladies trip October 12-15, we are so spoiled using Rick Steve’s accommodations etc..when planning our travels to Europe.
So I’m asking for help with accommodations in DC. In Europe we prefer small guesthouse with breakfast included.

I lived in DC years ago, so don’t have any relevant suggestions for accommodations. I would assume you are going to be spending most of the time on the Mall (where most of the museums are) . The Mall has good Metro access, so if you don’t want to stay walking distance from it, make sure your accommodation is close to a Metro stop. There are some small boutique hotels in Georgetown, which is a Very Nice neighborhood, not near a Metro stop, but near buses. Other neighborhoods would be DuPont Circle, Cleveland Park, Kalorama (first two have a Metro stop, latter does not). If you are adventuresome, you can also look at Logan Circle, Adams Morgan, Capitol Hill.
I put in your parameters in booking.com and came up with some good suggestions within the city.
