Six of us are booked to stay at Lulua Luxury camp in October for one night. It looks like it's not inside the Wadi Rum protected area. Has anyone stayed there? Does location make a difference?
I haven't stayed there, but if you look at a map, there are quite a few camps in the area, which will be a drawback. Staying outside of the protected area can be an advantage if you arriving late at night, because it won't take as long to get there. But it's a disadvantage in that it will make a longer day to get to the various stops within Wadi Rum, so you'll likely see less when you're there. Driving through the desert in the evening on our arrival has always been a highlight.
I would check the reviews thoroughly for any camp you book. I would also think a bubble tent in October could be stifling hot, but I've only stayed in the Bedouin tents before. Enjoy! Wadi Rum is my second favorite place in Jordan.
Thanks Coffee Girl. Do you have any recommendations for other camps you've stayed at?
If you're staying at a luxury camp, this might be be what you're looking for but we did one night at a traditional Bedouin camp (Rakan's camp) and it was an incredible experience. We also did one night at Sun City in the bubble tents so we got to see both a traditional and a luxury vibe.
Hi Jill,
They are all fairly similar experiences, so I would base it on reviews and location. We stayed at Candles Camp last year, and didn't really care for it. The food was pretty meh and the hosts/ guides were somewhat indifferent. We stayed at Wadi Rum Nomads 3 years ago and had a really fun experience- good food and hosts, beautiful location, excursions included in the price. It is basic with comfortable tents and shared bathrooms. (They might have upgraded accommodations, but I don't know). But this was 3+ years ago.
Scrolling through a WhatsApps group, co-workers (who also live in Jordan) have recommended:
Sun City Camp (bubble tents)
Rum Planet Camp
Wadi Rum Dream Camp
I don't have any experience with any of these, but maybe a starting point! Feel free to reach out if you have more questions.
Hi, Jill, I know that Lane, who posts here a lot, spent 2 nights at Wadi Rum and I believe he used Wadi Rum Desert Adventures, and had nothing but good things to say about them. Here is a link to his blog if you want to read about it. https://laneisgoingplaces.com/plans/egypt-jordan-and-israel-final-itinerary/
