Vancouver Restaurants For a Family of All Ages

My family of 9 children and adults are looking for restaurants in the Granville Island/Stanley Park/Gastown area. We plan to eat outside only and like burgers/fish & chips along with a nice steak/fish restaurant; so the price can vary. Because of our number, we want a restaurant that takes reservations. Any ideas?

White Spot - yeah, it's a chain, yeah, reviews are all over the board, but I go for the toasted Shrimp sandwich and homemade fries.

The Old Spaghetti Factory

I have not been to the Vancouver location but as a kid I loved the Toronto location. The Vancouver location is in Gastown. It was a fun experience. Not sure about the patio as we ate inside. Sometimes even got a seat in an old streetcar that was in the middle of the resturant. The food was nothing fancy but always a treat if we were in downtown Toronto for dinner.

I was watching a Netflix special last night and Ryan Reynolds was talking about his favourite resturant in the world. He mentioned Minervas. Not sure if it has a patio or is in the area you are looking for. But I am sure they enjoyed the shout out.

At lunch time there are vendors in the Granville Island Public Market that have fish & chips and burgers and there are tables outside to eat; this would be a casual option and you could use 2 tables, side by side. The Vancouver Fish Company and the Granville Island Hotel restaurant both have outside seating. If you don’t already know, there are small ferries that can take you from downtown to Granville Island with various stops on both sides along with seawall walks.

There are 2 downtown locations for Cactus Club, both overlooking the water (English Bay and Coal Harbour).

The Yaletown neighbourhood in downtown (ie Hamilton St) has restaurants with patios and may have more outside options then Gastown if you need them.

Outside is going to be the hardest thing to find. At Granville Public Market you should be able to find tables, and there's so many places to get food everyone could have something different. You might see if the Vancouver Fish Company will work for you.

My suggestion would be to hit a co op or grab takeout and head for a park if you want outside. You may also want to see if the H Tasting Lounge in Coal Harbor will work.

Since the pandemic, many restaurants have created outside seating areas so there are many many options throughout the city. Some are covered, others not. Weather may be the determining factor as we are having a bit of a rainy start to the summer.

If you decide to eat outside having bought foods from inside the market at Granville Island; be aware that the seagulls there are very aggressive...you might be inadvertently sharing dinner or lunch with them as they swoop about trying to get your food!
The seating area is right by the water, so there are many birds.
You can also sit inside.
Picnic type tables in both.
