What are some very good restaurants in the west end or downtown. Fairly quiet. Either Italian or East Indian/ thanks.

This one is Italian, it’s downtown.
I had my birthday dinner there last year and was treated like royalty.

Our favorite when we lived in BC years ago was CinCin on Robson. Not inexpensive, but the food was always top notch. Good exchange rate if you are paying in US$.

Second vote for Cincin. We love it and go each time we are in the city. Another great place we like to eat are the various places on Granville Island, where there even is a cooking school where you can eat a lovely meal prepared by the students. The Granville market has a variety of cusines...

Not on the West end but not far from downtown is Ask For Luigi - a very small traditional trattoria, reservations a must.

There are tons of great places to eat on Denman Street, Davie Street and Robson Street. As with any travel destination, we use Google Maps to look at location, ratings, reviews, menu and photos.
