After 20 years in Alaska, a move from the state in the not too distant future and with my girls getting older, I am on a mission to see parts of my state I have never been to.
We just returned from a 2 night stay and I have to say, Valdez may be my new favorite Alaskan town. Such a shame it is not on most tourists path. The only thing I really knew about it was the Exxon Valdez had left from that port before the accident.
We drove 6 hours there and took the ferry on the return. We were fortunate with incredible weather. We rode ebikes, went to the well done small museum and saw the sea lions right near the shore eating the salmon that were trying to return to their spawning area ( the fish hatchery). If you are planning a trip here, it is well worth the time to get there and a stunning drive from Anchorage.
Next up, Seldovia.
