I wonder if anyone can calm the panic please as we leave in less that 72 hours - UK to Sydney with 10 hour layovers SFO and LA both ways. We got our ESTA's sorted and thought that was all we needed. The airline is now asking for our KTN's and we do not know what these are - we have tried to speak with the embassy and the airlines and no one can help. Can someone give us a dummys guide please on all the terminology? I really thought the ESTA was all we needed but do we need something else to transit through the States with a quick visit out of the airport? Any help really appreciated. Thanks
Is the KTN a mandatory field that you must fill in? It shouldn’t be because a KTN is only issued to those who are approved to receive TSA PreCheck expedited screening.
You should be able to check in without a KTN.
"KTN" are only issued to travellers enrolled with TSA PreCheck (fast-track security screening), so I believe this requirement is entirely optional. What is the exact wording of your airline's message?
Panic over - thank you so much both for coming back to me. I realised (because i was reacting in panic) that i was choosing to "add document" that i dont need to transit. Lesson learnt - stay calm........
I know what you mean. I once accidentally checked add document box and didn’t understand why I couldn’t leave the page. Things happen when we’re in a rush or nervous but as you said, when we calm down it’s all ok.
