Turkey

Hello!
We are going to Istanbul. After Istanbul, where would you recommend going from there, in short flying distance from Ustanbul? We’re considering Cairo, or Crete. Possibly Athens.

Crete can be really lovely. But if you're going to Crete, then definitely either fly or take the ferry to Athens, if only to see places like the Acropolis and so on. It's an incredible country. I took the ferry over and back and really enjoyed it, but I like boats a lot. If you're short on time, flying is faster.

IST airport has dozens of direct flights to many locations and countries every day. What do you consider a "short" flight? What are your interests? How long do you want to stay at the next stop? What time of year? If it were me, I'd spend more time in Turkey - Ankara or Cappadocia.

kathrynlynnseifert,
What CKL said...spend more time in Turkey. We went on an 11 day tour and saw so many wonderful sights, I wish we had had more time. How long do you have? Cappadocia, Pamukkale, Kusadasi, Ephesus, and many other places make Turkey one of our favorite trips. We went on an Insight tour (Treasures of Turkey) which included our Istanbul time. If you have your Istanbul time planned, and you are so inclined, you might want to find a tour of other areas of Turkey.

Definitely save Egypt for when you can do a full tour. It is worth at least ten days or more.
Have a great trip!
