trip insurance choice for Peru/Machu Picchu

Hi, all. I'm taking a Backroads trip to Peru/Machu Picchu in the fall. Evacuation/repatriation coverage seems worthwhile to me as a senior traveller. I am considering the insurance offered by Backroads through Arch Travel, Travel Insured International, Faye, and the insurance included with my Chase Sapphire Reserve. Prices are close (credit card ins is free and Faye is probably the lowest price of the other 3). I'm interested in advice/experience with any of those, especially if you had experience making a claim.

I just saw Carol from Washington's reply about Medjet. That plus my credit card insurance would cover my concerns pretty well. Has anyone else used Medjet as a complement to credit card insurance?

I have a Medjet membership which, thankfully, I have never had an occasion to file a claim on. They are highly rated and I always feel a little better as a solo traveler to know one call and I will be taken care of. In addition, I have the travel insurance with my Chase Reserve Card.

The one travel claim I have made was on an Allianz policy and they paid quickly with no hassle.

Hi Karen! I recently took a trip to Patagonia and have been a frequent retiree traveler for the past few years. I’ve used several different travel insurance providers, but I keep coming back to Faye. I initially chose them because their prices were competitive, but I quickly realized there’s so much more to their service.

On my trip to Italy last year, I had a bit of a health scare and needed medical attention. The Faye team was incredible—quick, compassionate, and efficient. They handled everything from finding a nearby clinic to covering the costs, so I could focus on getting better. The peace of mind they provided was priceless.

I also love how easy it is to manage everything through their app. From purchasing the insurance to filing a claim, it’s all straightforward and user-friendly, which makes traveling stress-free—especially for someone like me who’s not always tech-savvy.

I haven’t used Medjet, but I can tell you that Faye really shines in those unexpected moments when you need support. They’re not just another insurance provider; they genuinely care about your well-being and make you feel like you’re in good hands. If you’re looking for reliable coverage with excellent service, I highly recommend giving them a try. Safe travels and enjoy your trip to Machu Picchu! It’s on my bucket list too!

Hi Susan. This was really helpful commentary about Faye. Another friend of mine read about them and used them as well but didn't have any claim experience as you did. I think the credit card insurance covers a lot of the same, but my sense is that it's not nearly as user friendly at Faye. Maybe it's worth $900 for the two of us just to have it be easy and on our phones. I'll see if anyone else has good or bad. Richard on claiming with Chase Sapphire Reserve while overseas.
