We want to add this to our Egypt trip and are looking for recommendations -- a travel agent to work with to set this up would be superb. Anyone have suggestions, please.
I did this independently last year. It was quite easy.
Fly Cairo to Amman. (I flew on Royal Jordanian.) Arrange for a driver to take you to Petra (I can recommend one if you're interested). Book a hotel within walking distance of the archaeological site (I can recommend one). Then visit the site. I stayed two nights and visited twice. The first day I hired a guide to give me a walking tour from the main entrance to the Great Temple. I walked back on my own. The second day I took the free shuttle to Little Petra, then took the (not free) shuttle to the back entrance of Petra and hiked all the way down. It was a lot of walking but spectacular, so if you are fit and able, I highly recommend doing it that way. (You can also hire donkeys, horses, or wagons for some portions of the trek.)
Assuming you will then go back to the airport in Amman, I used the same driver.
I'm happy to give you any additional tips or answer other questions you might have. But if you prefer to work with a travel agent, I'm afraid I can't offer any advice on that.
We were happy with Egypt and Beyond for a private tour of Jordan and Israel last year. Not cheap, but very good. https://www.egyptandbeyondtravel.com
Thank you both. very helpful We're continuing our research. In the meantime we'll follow up on investigating both suggestions.
