Travelling to India - Obtaining an e visa

I have been wanting to travel to India for a while now and so I have decided to go for it!
I am looking to go around June-July. Reading from a few different forums, I believe I would need a travel visa. Has anyone got one of these before and if so, is this something I get before I travel or when I get there?
Thanks for your help in advance!

There is a ton of information on the web if you google "Visa for India" , and you will find out about the requirements for citizens of most countries. Since we do not know your citizenship no one here can help you.

June is probably the worst month to visit India due to very high heat. Then July/Aug is the monsoon. Sept to March is best, esp Jan/Feb.

Hill towns, Kashmir, and maybe Kerala would work in June.

Thanks a lot Joe. Have you got a visa and if so, did you get it from there?
I have had a look at that website before and it looks okay but I have had a few bad experiences with the gov website before and I don't believe the customer service is good enough. I have been doing my research and have been looking at agencies who also do visas and was thinking of getting one from there. I have been looking at this one https://onlinevisaindia.co.uk/ and this one https://www.e-visaindia.com/. Have you heard anything about these.
I know that agencies charge quite a bit more and so getting a visa from the gov website would be better to save money..
If you told me your thoughts that would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi Tom_MN, thanks for your reply. I have recently seen a few people saying that actually and that June there is some rainfall? That is definitely something for me to take into consideration.. I may go around March time then. Have you been around this time?
Thanks for your help.

The government is the only entity that can issue a visa; not sure how an additional layer of agents would help.

If something goes sideways while using an agency, you have the prospect of everyone pointing fingers at the other party. If you are dealing direct, that is not the case.

No, I have not ever had to obtain a visa for India. Just found the site and made it available to you

So, Lillieh, why do you not just apply for a visa through the Indian Embassy, or High Commissioner for India, or whatever it is called, and be done with it?

Hi, June can be 120 F similar to Phoenix, esp the interior north. Monsoon sometimes starts in June (in the north).

March would be much better, hottest months April/May/June like in SE Asia. Monsoon season may not be a terrible time to visit, it’s a gamble.

Hi - A group of friends (and I) went on a tour of India and Nepal - we used the company Gate1.
They have a link on their site with help getting necessary Visas.
https://www.gate1travel.com/asia-pacific/india

We used their suggestedVisa service for a fee (a group of us all sent ours together). Because There is not an embassy in our area. It all worked out just fine and we got our passports back very quickly with our visas for India (we were able to get our Nepal Visas upon arrival at The Kathmandu airport) You can use the link on the site to get an India Visa even if you are not traveling with this company.
You will LOVE India. I want to go back.

Rather than keep numerous global offices open just to issue visas I think you will find various official agents are licensed to carry out this work. When I travelled to India four years ago, the visa process was very efficient through the agent here in Brisbane. Check the link below.
