I am looking for suggestions on best way to travel between Cape Town & Johannesburg. I am open to train travel but have heard concerning rumors about significant train delays and safety

Non stop one way airfare is only $69, and the trip takes about two hours. Would think that flying would be preferred in this case.

"Dark Star Safari" liked the overnight train from J to C. My son took the train and had no problems. You get to see some countryside and get a taste of the diverse kinds of towns on the way. Price is about the same as flight.
