We are looking at booking a nine day tour around morocco and extending our time in Casablanca to be able to go and see Chefcheouen. Does anyone have any experience with what kind of transportation we would need to get to be able to get there? I’m not sure about renting cars or anything like that. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Start by taking the train to Tangier, that will get you a lot closer to Chefcheouen.
I would take a very different view.
Casablanca doesn't have a whole lot that interested me (an understatement). There's one large mosque (and a modern one at that). I was happy to put Casa behind me, and have a hard time imagining why one might want to extend their time there. Maybe I missed something?
How you allocate your time depends on your tastes, of course, but mostly on what/where else you are going to see/do on your trip. I would dedicate most of my time to the old cities (Marrakech, Fes, Meknes, and more), the Roman ruins, the High Atlas mountains, and what lies beyond (south) of them (including the desert), the Todra Gorge. The coastal cities (including Tangiers) would be exactly the places I would seek to avoid spending any time in at all.
I've rented cars in Marrakech and drove over the mountains -- I found that very easy (once you get outta Marrakech itself, like many cities in the developing world, driving there is not for the faint of heart). But in our case it was easy to pick up the car there, and head straight out of town. There's also a (surprisingly good) train system (legacy of the French colonial period), and buses go everywhere.
