Travel fro Phnom Phen to SIem Reap

How is the bus ride from Phnom Phen to Siem Reap. I understand it is 8-9 hours long. Are the buses clean and comfortable? Are the bathrooms clean? We have travelled extensively in Europe by bus and are not averse to it but have never traveled by bus in Asia.
Any comments will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

What bathroom is my initial response. Buses often don't have bathrooms in Asia - if they don't they will stop frequently - the bathrooms are likely to range from basic to average. They are likely to be squat rather than sit style (though sometimes you'll find a western style loo by looking for the handicap sign). Caveat I haven't' travelled Cambodia recently - so things may have improved. But generally, I'd expect buses to be uncomfortable, and to take longer than advertised. Travel very light - don't expect to be able to fit a bag inside the bus with you unless you purchase an additional seat (which is rarely expensive and which we've sometimes done) - otherwise bags go underneath and will probably get filthy.

Don't get me wrong I love the adventure of buses and trains in SE Asia- but its rarely comfortable. If you want comfortable consider either flying or getting a long-distance taxi which will easy to arrange on arrival.

I took the bus the other way, Siem Reap to Phnom Phen. In my notes I have nothing listed about the bus ride. Therefore it was uneventful.
My recollection is of nothing about that ride. I do have recollections of many bus rides in Central America and Asia that reside infamously in my mind. However this is not one of them, so I believe it is a rather tame experience.
