Hello fellow travelers, I am looking for recommendations of places to stay while we are exploring the Uradome scenic coast, everything looks quite old and and expensive, I am wanting something more top notch with cleanliness high in mind, I don't mind paying top dollar. Or i wouldn't mind simple and easy and clean but as we are a group of non-japanese speaking americans, whom have never been to japan, we will need some`assistance with sightseeing, arranging boat tours, and such. Does anyone out there have any ideas? I am feeling like a little fish out of water! Many Thanks!
Most people here are European travelers and not familiar with Japan. I suggest you try the Japan forum on TripAdvisor. People there are very helpful.
Hi Laura,
While I've never been to Tottori, I may be able to point you in the right direction. You should download the NHK World app (Japanese television in English, mostly meant for the purpose of promoting tourism) either on Firestick, iPad or iPhone. You can watch dozens of shows including replays on various prefectures and tourist related matters. In fact, I watched an episode of a great show earlier called Journeys in Japan, with a focus on Tottori prefecture; they've likely done a few other shows on it in the past too. This should give you a good start in planning your Japan trip. There are a number of shows on this channel that get region-specific. It's a great tool. I must say, as first timers in Japan, your decision to start with Tottori is very unconventional. I would think this is more of a trip for a 2nd or 3rd timer. That being said, I would go anywhere in Japan if I had the time and money. Here are some links to get you started:
