Tokyo and Habuka

Hello,

I am planning a 9 night trip to Japan in late August 20-29. I have planned many trips to Europe but Japan seems a little daunting. We are wanting city and nature so I chose these two places.

3 nights Japan- Westin
4 nights Hakuba - apartment
2 nights Tokyo- JW Marriott

We are wanting to do some hiking and canyoning and beautiful nature scenery. We are planning to rent a car when we arrive to Hakuba.

Any recommendations on anything? Things to do, restaurants, etc?

We are a family of four with boys ages 11 and 13. We want to try wagyu beef and good ramen.
Other than this, I have nothing planned.

Thank you for your help!

If the boys are into anime, they might like the Ghibli Museum. My husband dnd I loved it and we are not anime fans. It was just do colorful and creative. It’s very hard to get tickets, so get on the site now and learn about the process. I found some YouTube videos that were very helpful.

My husband, son and I also loved the teamLab Planets museum. There are two, we went to the one near the Bay. It was also very creative and fun. We were there in March and got tickets a couple of days in advance. I don’t know if it is more difficult at other times of the year.

I haven't been to Hakuba, but it looks very scenic with mountain scenery.
Not sure what city you refer to with 3 nights Japan-Westin? Are you referring to the Westin Tokyo?

You are not planning to visit the most fantastic place in Japan! It's Kyoto. The ancient capital loaded with amazing places, not damaged in WWII. You need three days to see Kyoto minimum.
Also, there are other great places like Hiroshima, Kobe, Nara and Osaka. The historic Nikko north of Tokyo is worth a day trip.

I suggest that you do more research. Look at the cities that tour groups visit and use TripAdvisor.com "things to do" and you will see the key sites to visit.

Japan has a fantastic rail system with high speed trains. With heavy traffic and parking problems, not sure I would rent a car.
Are you used to driving on the left?
