Texas weather in September - San Antonio

Please help me understand a bit more about what the average weather is like for San Antonio in September. Flight prices are reasonable and I’m thinking of visiting Dad during the middle of September. I have looked at some weather sites but would like opinions of those forum members who live or traveled to Texas at this time of year. Thanks

Howdy from Texas, Linda!

In September the weather finally begins cooling after the summer heat. It can still be a bit warm, but it is much cooler than August. Highs will be around 90, with lows around 70. Winter is my favorite season in San Antonio. We get bright, sunny, cool days, and cold, but not too cold, nights.

You're also a bit more likely to see some rain in September.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks Scott. How about chances of hurricanes? High?

If you are going to have a storm come up from the Gulf, September is likely the month for it. The big ones are rare.

My wife went to college there and we lived some years later somewhat north of San Antonio, with regular trips there. We usually enjoyed September, especially later in the month, when the summer extraordinary heat had broken.

Thank you all for giving me some first hand insight on the weather in Texas. I have booked my trip to see dad and sis.

It will still be hot, but not "as hot as blazes" like it is in July and August. Here in central Texas it has been cooler and wetter than normal so far this year. It's been so nice!

Now I am planning a camping trip with sis. Two days, one night North of San Antonio - in the Hill Country. Looking at Pedernales Falls SP or Potters Creek Park near Canyon Lake. I am not familiar with the area, but my sis has been exploring there. Any thoughts on these two areas? They both look very nice.

Pedernales is excellent. I think Texas Sate parks are still requiring reservations, so go to the web site and buy tickets ahead of time. And don't be confused when you hear locals pronounce it "Perden alice falls"
