Texas Research (US Passport Renewal Year)

I am just now starting to do research for my passport renewal year. Since we plan to stay in the US that year (no worries about how fast the passport is returned to us), we're looking at Texas as a possible destination.

We want to see Mission Control in Houston.

We want to see the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas.

We're looking at off season here - late February/early March for this trip.

It's a possibility to fly round trip to Dallas and rent a car. Same for Houston. We might even hit Austin. Anything that's less than a four hour drive is a maybe.

So while there's still TONS of research to be done, is there anything that YOU have seen/done in the Dallas/Ft. Worth/Houston/Austin range of Texas that you'd definitely recommend to someone?

Thank you in advance!!

Correction to info above

GHWBush Presidential Library is in College Station, Texas. It is on the campus of Texas A&M, about 90 minutes NW of Houston.

I would say stay in Galveston for a couple days. There are some fun things to do on the island and it can be relaxing. I go at least once a year because my best friend works in Galveston so it is a nice place.

In Dallas, Deep Ellum neighborhood. Good music, brew pubs, galleries and intriguing murals. In the Bishop arts district try a piece of pie at Emporium pies. They might have a shop in Deep Ellum now as well.

Head off to Ft Worth. Have lunch at the Lunchbox.

For themother of all flea markets take drive outside Dallas to Canton Texas. Absolutely the most fun I’ve had in ages with my camera and curiousity. https://firstmondaycanton.com

Summer heat in Texas can be brutal. 112 degrees at times. Doubt you’ll see temps like that in February or March. definitely, most definitely watch weather reports. Will be much much cooler.

San Antonio Riverwalk and the tiny venerable Alamo.

It is a shame you didn't make this trip 5 years ago.

I'd have sent you west of the Metroplex on Highway 377 to Dublin, Texas. You could have worshiped at the home of real Imperial Pure Cane Sugar (It's quick dissolvin') Dr Pepper at the bottling plant using such an ingredient and making an absolutely superior Dr Pepper, in small glass returnable bottles. I used to trek out there and bring home cases of the stuff. Good stuff, and after watching the antique machinery bottle it even better.

Sadly the big industry company has shut down that facility by buying all the production and distribution and then discontinuing it.

Still a fun little town though.

Thank you all so much for all of your suggestions! While no two travelers are exactly alike, I always love to hear what other people enjoyed when seeing a specific area. I'll be looking at the places listed while I'm planning out our trip.

Thanks again!! :-)
