Tel Aviv on Saturday

I will be arriving at 7:45 am in Tel Aviv on a Saturday morning. I know that buses do not run so am looking for advice on how to get to my hotel. I will be staying at the Deborh Hotel on Ben Yehuda street Tel Aviv-YAfo. I would like the most economical way, do the shared taxis run. I have emailed the hotel as well. How much will be opened in the area of my hotel. Will be starting a tour the next night and would have just finished a 8 day tour in Jordan so looking for cafes, some sites and if the weather is good maybe the beach.

Thanks
Wendy

The only way is a taxi. The fares are regulated.

There are no shared taxis or buses from the airport to Tel Aviv on any day. There's a train but it stops running late Friday afternoon and resumes Saturday night.

Until this month there were minibuses that operated on a couple of main bus routes in Tel Aviv on Saturday, but that service may now be suspended. This week work began on the light rail system, and there are massive traffic changes. If you want to visit "sites" you'll have to walk or take taxis. Most Tel Aviv sights are closed on Saturday. The Tel Aviv Museum (excellent, focuses on 20th-21th century art) is open. The beaches are along 3 kms of seashore. A number of cafes are open on Saturday along that stretch.

if the weather is good - when are you planning to be here?

No sheruts? We used to be able to take a sherut from Haifa to the airport but that was several years ago....

Thanks I will be there September 5th. My hotel appears to be a few blocks from the beach, so that ma be where I end up. I will look into the museum that you mentioned.

Yes, same as Nigel, we were able to go from the airport to Tel Aviv in a sherut. Mind, it was a long time ago. Incidentally, we stayed at the same hotel that the OP is booked into.

Thanks I hoped there was a more economical way than a cab but what can you do. Guess a taxi it is then

There is sherut service to Haifa, Jerusalem and other distant places 24/7. I don't think there's been sherut service to Tel Aviv since the trains started running.

In September the weather is always good for the beach. Undertows can be dangerous, so look for the flags on the life guard towers - red is caution (don't go out too far), black is no swimming permitted (you can wade in the water). Leave all your valuables at the hotel. Some hotels will give you a towel for the beach, or just tuck one from your room into your beach bag. Bring a little cash. Take a hat and sunscreen too. You can rent a lounge chair. I haven't been in years, but it used to be that you just sat on a vacant one (you can move it to where you want to be) and a guy would come around and collect payment. When you want to go in the water, just ask the people next to you (the beach will be crowded) to watch your stuff. Leave something on the chair so it doesn't look occupied! There are fresh water showers on the beach, so you can cool down or rinse off the salt water. I'd go to the beach first thing, before it gets too hot (and crowded) and if you really enjoy the beach, go back in the late afternoon.

The Museum is open from 10 to 6. It's about a 1/2 hour walk from your hotel.
