Taxi or Uber or something for late arrival at IAD

We are flying into Washington Dulles Airport about 10PM Nov 21 for thanksgiving with family in Manassas.

I didn't want to ask them to pick us up so late in the evening, so I researched taxis or uber to the trip, which is about 21 miles.

Seems that a taxi will run around $55. Uber will be a bit cheaper. I have never used Uber.
I could rent a car for one day and return it to Manassas the next day for about the same as a taxi.

How reliable is Uber and should I sign up an account with them?

Dulles is our home airport. We take the Washington Flyer taxi service home (they seem to have the taxi monopoly for leaving Dulles) going to the taxi stand be be assigned a cab from the control guy

A few weeks ago, we called them to have a taxi pick us up to go to the airport, and it worked great. We'll probably do that from now on. You could call or email them and make a reservation for your arrival, or go to the taxi stand upon arrival.

There is a tab with a map for taxi fares on the website.

I always use Washington Flyer (you don’t have a choice of companies if you get in the taxi queue). I am sure they are more expensive than uber, but I am not sure I’d want to mess with a rideshare around Thanksgiving.

Adding one more thing … Unless you think having a rental car will be useful for other purposes, I wouldn’t rent a car just to get you to Manassas. To get to the rental car companies, you have to take a shuttle to the rental car lots.

I live close by and I either take a Lyft/Uber or Washington Flyer. I would check the prices on all and decide which is cheapest.

I would also look at Lyft. Co-workers and I agree that they have the most reliable and nicest drivers between the two car-sharing services.
