Tomorrow we depart for our “bucket list trip of a lifetime” and we are so excited I just had to share with my forum friends! I know we are mostly euro-centric on this forum, but after a trip to South Africa in 2016, we are also hooked on Africa. We are doing 3 days in Amsterdam ( to get over jet lag and because I have never been) then a 9 day safari in Tanzania and gorilla trekking in Uganda! If you have not been to Africa and you just keep going to Europe, consider branching out to this amazing continent, you won’t be sorry!
Tammy - Have a blast and don’t forget to make one of those photo montages you sent me!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds cool. Any plans to dive around Zanzibar, or will you be keeping your feet dry this trip?
Have fun, be careful and safe travels (it's no time to catch COVID!). Will look forward to hearing about your adventure.
Thanks Valerie, of course I will make a photobook!
David, no diving (although I would love to), my husband is not a diver.
I agree that Africa captures one's heart quickly. Have a wonderful time Tammy.
We're heading to Kenya in 2.5 weeks--first trip to Africa and so excited!
Taking a break in Amsterdam is a wonderful way to break up that long trip. Find some good Indonesian food while you are in Amsterdam. Have a great time and stay safe. I am looking forward to your photos.
Tammy,
One word of advice. Since you are going to Tanzania, I assume you are going to the Ngorongoro Crater. Before entering the park, you will probably have to stop at the entry so that your guides can get the park passes. There is a small museum and gift shop there and you can get out and stretch your legs. You will see baboons in the parking lot and it looks like they are posing so sweetly for you to take their photos. They look so innocent. Don’t be fooled. They are waiting for people to come out of the gift shop with snacks. One of our tour members bought cashews to share with our small group. As soon as the baboon saw that she had nuts in her hand, the baboon went after her with large teeth bared. Our tour mate screamed and flung the nuts at the baboon and that was the end of the incident. The baboon promptly stuffed its cheeks with the nuts and the rest of the troop of baboons came out of the woods hoping to get in on the action. Like any mugger, it is best to give them what they want and retreat. The problem is that people have been feeding these baboons and they see us (especially women) as food sources. So be on guard. I am not telling you this to scare you but just to be aware. I never felt unsafe in Africa. I don’t know what company you are going with but of our guides in Tanzania was Daniel who is a big burly teddy bear. He is the absolute best guide and if he is one of the guides go with him. He is an absolute love. I would go anywhere with Daniel. Funny, smart, eyes in the back of his head, knows where to find the animals.
Tammy, I can’t wait to hear about your trip!
Thanks for the advice Mary, I will be sure to be careful of those baboons!
Are you going with a tour company? Would you mind sharing which one? Have a great trip
