Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) vs. Don Mueang Airport (DMK)

I have noticed for regional flights in Southeast Asia these are both an option depending on where you are flying out from, is there any major preference to choose between either airport in Bangkok?

We don't have a strict plan for where we are staying yet so open to any suggestions or if one if easier to get around or has an easier arrival experience, thank you.

DMK used to be Bangkok’s only international airport (using the BKK code) but was replaced by the new and much bigger BKK a few years ago as the city’s main airport, but as you’ve seen DMK is still used by low cost and regional carriers. I’d just go with whatever best suits your schedule and budget.

It doesn't make much difference. Just call a Grab or take a taxi if you prefer, from either.

DMK is smaller and easier to navigate so if there was nothing to differentiate the flights other than departure airport then I would opt for DMK.

We arrived at BKK from USA and departed from BMK to India in January 2026. Taxis are easy and inexpensive from both airport. As all other responders wrote, just find the right flights for your trip, either airport will be fine.

Thank you, is a taxi the standard way to go from either airport, or are the trains easy enough to get around? I have seen BKK has an airport train but I'm not sure if its convenient for some areas you may stay.

Where exactly are you staying? As you say, whether it's convenient will depend on where your hotel is.
