I might be hosting a friend of a friend's 18 year old son for July and August. He is a student from France that will start college in September. He is in his gap year so has already graduated from high school. I think it would be nice if he traveled around and saw some other parts of the US while he is here. Can anyone recommend a tour that would be appropriate for him? He has visited the West so maybe something around NY and New England.

And where is he from in France--Paris or a less urban area of France?

He is athletic and he likes science, math, and engineering. He is from the suburbs of Paris. I'm wondering if anybody has any good/bad experiences with tour companies. I am checking on tripadvisor also.
