Storylines Failure to Refund Deposit

I’m wondering if Storylines is already experiencing financial stress. I cancelled my cabin reservation three months ago, and yet still have not received my deposit refund despite a series of requests, to which Storylines has responded with a series of excuses and promises, yet to be fulfilled. A week ago, after a threat, they asked for bank information and promised to wire refund. A wire takes a matter of hours—one week later, still no funds returned.

Has anyone else encountered similar problems?

Not sure how you could do it but you might try locating this gentleman to see if he got his deposit back:

Given the history of this thing - and that there's still NO SHIP after years of aborted launch dates - I'm more than a bit surprised that there hasn't been a mass exodus of people who've put money down.

Erin, crossing fingers that you get your deposit back; let us know how it shakes out?

It will take longer than 3 months and a lot of follow ups to receive your refund. We cancelled our reservation in August and finally received the refund a few weeks ago, even though the deposit agreement states refunds will be issued 30 days after requested.

We paid our refund via credit card and had to open a credit card dispute to get Storylines to follow through on the refund.

In the process I would pester Storylines with weekly emails. Sometimes I would receive a reply after a few days, but often would not receive any reply. I would have every known Storyline email address included in my emails, which was about 20 in the end.

The replies I did receive were always some excuse:

  • This is being escalated
  • We tried to send the refund but the routing number was incorrect
  • I will look into this and get back to you tomorrow (they never got back to us)
  • Refunds are halted as we are undergoing an investor audit
  • There is a meeting tomorrow and we will get back to you after the meeting (also never happened)

We were also interviewed by Business Insider as we were making our displeasure widely known about the refund delay. If you paid your refund by credit card, open a credit card dispute. Storylines will not respond to the dispute, so you have to wait the full 90 days that the credit card company gives them to respond, and then you will be given the refund by default.

I finally received my refund, but only after I followed through on my recent threat to Storylines to go public on social media with my displeasure. Once I posted here and on their FB page, they sprung into action, much like your experience, once your story appeared in Business Insider. They obviously fear the negative publicity.
