Check the tread on your rental car and drive slowly on wet curvy roads.

I was wondering about renting a vehicle at all! Information I have seen seems to state the roads are hilly, winding, and you have to drive on the Left side of the road. So I was wondering if it would be best to skip a car and stay local? Any thoughts?

It’s been a few years but I’ve done it both ways. The driving isn’t bad and while driving on the left with the steering wheel also on the left is a bit weird, you quickly get used to it, especially at the slow speed of island driving. But you can also get around by taxi or public bus. I think the important question is where you are staying. If in or very near Cruz Bay, or at a resort such as the Westin, you’ll do fine without your own vehicle. But if you’re renting a villa somewhere else, you probably should have one.

You can always take cabs and resort shuttles but Driving is very low key easy and very safe as long as you don’t speed and your rental has tread. If you can’t drive on St John, you shouldn’t be driving at all.
