Anyone have experience with Sri Lanka? Recommendations about where to spend a month? Maybe 2 weeks in two different locations? We don't want to move around a lot - want to land in only a couple different places. I have heard that transportation is slow. Thanks in advance!
With a month you will have time to see a lot of places as it is a small country.
You'll probably want to spend 5-7 days in Kandy including trips to the Dambulla caves, Sigiriya and places nearby. Negombo (quite close to the airport) has a pleasant relaxing beach. Colombo is worth a few days. Galle further south is supposed to be interesting.
There are quite a few other places to see - but you'll probably need to get a guidebook from your local library.
Thanks - we really don't want to move around a lot - we want to stay in only a couple places for a few weeks each.
When are you travelling? The different coasts experience different wet seasons, so if you want 2 weeks on the coast, timing is key.
I am planning a 4 week trip for January/February 2019 at present, but we will be touring round as it's a wildlife watching/culture holiday and we are hiring a driver/guide for the entire trip, although we are not covering the northern half of the island. Kandy seems to be a sensible place for one of your bases.
Negombo or Galle could be your second base or you could head to Nuwara Eliya for the tea plantations if you want cooler weather, but this is perhaps best for a few days, not two weeks. There are many resorts on the southern or east coast, depending on when you are travelling.
