Sonoma

Hello!

We were planning on visiting Sonoma next week. I heard it was flooded tonight. Should we cancel our plans?

Thanks

I live in Southern California, but have been following the flooding in Sonoma. More rain is expected next week. Based on what I have seen, I would definitely cancel your trip there. I don’t think you will be able to enjoy what Sonoma offers during nice weather. Sorry about my recommendation, but save what ever money you can from this trip and plan to return another time.

I live very close to Sonoma. I would not cancel a trip to Sonoma next week based on flooding yesterday and today in the Russian River area. Sonoma County is big and you can easily avoid the Russian River area, which i doubt will be flooded next week. The weather could be great by then, there’s no way to know.
Edit: the News just now says flood waters are receding and should be gone by tomorrow. No significant rain in the forecast.

The flooding and heavy rains seems to be mostly west of 101, with the exception of a few roads that always flood when it rains. Alexander Valley, Sonoma Valley, Dry creek (not sure of flooding there), and northern Sonoma county on 101 all have great wineries. Napa us also close by.
Sonoma County has endured more catastrophy in less than two years than most communities do in a lifetime. Support the area with your tourist dollars.

Depending on how long you are planning, you could also drive down your Monterey County for a few nights. They also great wines and wineries to visit.

We would like to go to San Francisco March 2,3,4 if all goes well. Hope the weather will be nice.

How long to Monterrey from San Francisco and how would we get there. We won't have a car?

Thanks

Are you basing yourselves in S.F. or Sonoma? Without a car you should just forget about getting to Monterey. What are you using for your primary transportation? These are basic questions to getting around in California. There is a reason everyone drives or stays local. Buses are horrible and slow. From SF to Monterey is 4.5 hours on a bus, and you would have to over night to return the next day.

You are visiting in the normal rainy season. This year is very wet, more than it has been for 20 years. That's going to cause problems.

No way you get to Monterey easily without a rental car. How were you doing Sonoma with out rental?
When you say Sonoma do you mean the town or the County?

Hi Maria,

My wife and four friends are heading to Sonoma County this coming Sunday. We base ourselves in Healdsburg and I talked to friends at one of our favorite wineries today and she said all was good. They are expecting more rain this weekend but there no flooding in this area. I think it is best to confirm with someone in the area where you will be traveling. It mostly appears to be in areas near the Russian River. If its raining we will drink wine inside.

Happy Travels.
