Can anyone recommend a reliable shuttle service out of the Queretaro airport going to San Miguel de Allende? We are three relatively active seniors who will be arriving early afternoon on Saturday, September 26th and heading back to the airport on Monday, October 5. We visited the city of Guanajuato and loved it so much we decided to spend time in SMA this year. Last year, the owner of our VRBO rental arranged a car for our transport, but the owner of this year's rental home uses her car to get her to the city from the US, so has no experience with car services. We don't really relish the idea of dragging luggage over the cobblestone streets to get to our "casita" from the bus station, or we'd make it an adventure - I guess that ease trumps adventure at some point. Cost is naturally a factor, but reliability is even more important as to the car service. Should we expect to pay per person - or per trip?
We've done the trip between SMA and Guanajuato several times by combining bus and taxis, both of which are remarkably cheap in Mexico. Both Primera Plus and ETN provide extremely comfortable service between the two cities. No adventure involved - combining bus and taxi will result in door-to-door service at a very affordable price.
For info, we booked a private car on our first visit to SMA many years ago, but after trying the bus we've never done it again.
We used a service provided by Leandro Delgado (email@example.com) on our first trip from BJX to SMA. Cost was around $200 a few years ago. He also runs day tours from SMA to the Butterfly Sanctuary, the pyramids, and other attractions nearby. Might get a deal if you opt to book a tour in conjunction with your airport pickup. Likewise he may offer reduced round trip fares that may make it worthwhile. We thought his service was excellent...just a little pricey.
Just revisited your original question and realized that I had focused on Guanajuato in my responses, rather than Queretaro. Same advice essentially - would be a quick and easy bus ride from Queretaro to SMA as well (shorter actually), and since Mr Delgado is based in SMA it would be even easier, and cheaper, to book him for your airport pickup there.
Thanks so much for your help. I'll check into both options.
