I also posted this question in general Europe.
Any recommendations for a tour company for a self drive tour of Iceland? Want to do the ring road and some of the highlands.
Also any experiences you can share about the highlights of your trip to Iceland would be great.
We plan to travel the last half of September. Really wish RS would delve more into this destination.
I haven't done a self-drive tour but if you google "self drive tour iceland", you'll get a range of companies that you can compare against (there is no shortage of outfitters in Iceland for road trips). Honestly, RS doesn't need to delve into Iceland - it would be a losing proposition and not much value added with all the excellent web-based info (and Lonely Planet book) out there that explains everything in great detail. The tourist infrastructure in Iceland is very sophisticated and user-friendly - very easy to do research on your own. Hopefully you have at least 7 full days if not more to do the Ring Road justice. Spend at least 3 additional days in Reykjavik if you can - it's a great little city, lots to do (museums, landmarks, cultural attractions, hot pools), great food and nightlife.
