Seeking a reputable travel insurer who will cover while abroad?

I am in Zimbabwe, having just completed a three week OAT safari called Ultimate Africa (which was fabulous by the way) and have decided to stay on for a month to volunteer at an elephant rescue however, Travel Insured, my travel insurance carrier, cannot extend my current policy, which expired on July 5.

Do you happen to know of a reputable travel insurance company that will cover me from today until I arrive back in the US 30 July?

Thank you so much for any sage advice you can offer.

Kind regards and happy travels!
Izzie

I used Travel Insured myself, but there are others of course. I would suggest just trying each one to see what you can find. I would start by going to Squaremouth and comparing the various policies. Or just look at all the providers they compare, and start going down the list. https://www.squaremouth.com/travel-insurance-providers

I did not check this but I wonder if World Nomads would work for you. They covered me when I couldn’t use my Allianz annual policy (trip length).

Izzie, what kind of coverage are you looking for? Financial? Medical? Medical evacuation?

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful replies! because I was under a time constraint. I bought a plan from IMG international medical global. They were willing to ensure me while in Zimbabwe through when I return home. it was a little dear, but I took it for peace of mind

And in answer to your question what I was looking for was medical evacuation and expenses only, aa all other insurance needs I will rely upon my Chase Sapphire card to cover me.

I will consider all of your suggestions when I next plan a trip abroad thank you so much!

Following with great interest...............

My "guess" is since you are already there, POSSIBLY, traditional trip insurance companies may shy away.

But, following to see what others say and what ultimately works out for you (please update us).

For medical insurance, try GeoBlue (both medical and medical evacuation)...they are somehow tied in with BlueCross.

Just by the nature of WHAT you will be doing, too, that could appear "risky" to insurers (so you might need the additional coverage of ....I can recall what it is called...something like "extreme sports"....the rider that covers stuff like hot air balloons, sky diving, etc.

Very interesting challenge.........sincere best wishes. What an experience you will have with those elephants :)
