Looking for suggestions on the best guide book for San Juan. We'll be there 4 days pre-cruise.

You should go to cruisecritic and go to the forums.

El Yunque National Forest is very nice and makes a nice change from all the Caribbean port towns you'll be visiting. There are reviews on TripAdvisor.

We have the Insight guide, my son has Lonely Planet--quite comparable.
You can gather food ideas at chowhound.com
After that there are the Lonely Planet and Trip Advisor forums.
