I’m flying to Delhi from San Francisco north bay in December. I haven’t found a nonstop from sf so it looks like a multi day with 1 stop is necessary. Any recommendations on airlines or cities to stop in? Any experience is appreciated.

We visited India and Nepal in February this year, but flew from the East Coast to Dubai, then on to India.
We almost were seriously delayed on our return due to the Iran war.
Having flown from the USA to Japan, China and Singapore I can't imagine not having a transfer. Consider Korean Air they are great.

Try using Google Flights to search. It will show you lots of options on many different airlines. (Book your choice directly with the airline.) I tried it out with random dates in December and options included Virgin Atlantic, Cathay Pacific, Turkish Air, United and more. They all involve one stopover along the way. You are literally going around the world! Because you will likely cross the International Dateline, be careful about the dates you book so that you actually arrive on the day you want.

I have flown to India many times over the years on several airlines, both from the West and the East Coast of the US. IMO, the best airline to fly on is Singapore. Next would be other Asian companies (Thai, Korean, Cathay, Japan). Third on the list are the Middle Eastern companies (Emirates, Qatar), but these days that's a dicey option. American companies are last (I just don't like their service), though you may get on a code share with any of the above-listed foreign airlines. By the way, Singapore is a great city to stop in. Hong Kong, too. Can't say the same for the desert cities, especially these days when you can get hit by something falling from the sky.
