San Francisco hotels - last minute booking

Hi, needing to do a last minute hotel/bnb booking (just under 2 weeks from now) for a couple of nights in San Francisco (Fri, Sat 3/14/15) for myself, my daughter and a friend (2 queen beds in 1 room preferred for $). In particular, I'm wondering about which neighborhoods would be preferred for safety of evening walking to meals and maybe proximity to BART stops? Thinking about three star ($170-300?) We need to go to the Mission District (near Guerrero and 16th St) for an Sat morning appointment, I expect we will need to uber there from wherever we end up staying, but would be happy if able to use public transit.

I haven't been to SF since I was a kid, so I'd love to have advice of the best locations to focus my last minute search. Thanks.

Check out the Hyatt Regency SOMA. It has been a few years since I was in SF so I cannot comment on what the homeless situation is and where there is a safe area. The area around the Hyatt was always nice. You can always cab anywhere for dinner.

I love San Francisco! Last October, we spent a week at the Chancellor Hotel for my husband's birthday. It's just off Union Square, and the trolley passes right in front of it. The Powell BART station is an easy 10 minute walk. From that same area, you can access the F-line streetcar, which takes you to the Mission, and numerous buses. The hotel is over 100 years old and is still family run, so it's a good fit if you like a bit of history. While staying there, we were able to get around the city by foot and public transit. We only used rideshares when we were really far afield (i.e. Lands End).

I live in the SF Bay Area and go up to the City quite often. There are not too many hotel options near the Mission District, but it is easy to get to by Bart (there is a Bart Station at 16th Street) or Uber.

For years, I would stay in the Union Square area, but since the Pandemic, I have moved away from the more tourist areas to focus on a couple of areas that are really safe for walking with great restaurant options near by. If you can get a good rate at the Hyatt Embarcadero, it is conveniently located across from the Ferry Building (which has great restaurants) and within walking distance of Fisherman Wharf. There is a Bart Station two minute walk from the Hotel and short ride to the Mission District.

The other area that is fun is North Beach. The Washington Square Inn is a three star hotel that does have a triple room. It is in the heart of North Beach, so great restaurants, shopping, short walk to Fisherman’s Wharf. You can take a bus or Bart to the Mission District. This is a small hotel, affordable so often sells out.

I have not stayed in SOMA recently. With people coming back to work, it is starting to get busier. The areas in North SOMA, between 6th and 10th streets would be areas that I would avoid.

Hope this helps.
